Yuri Gagarin:
- He was born on March 9, 1934 in Gzhatsk, Russia.
- Gagarin graduated from the Soviet Air Force cadet school in 1957.
- Gagarin's spacecraft was launched on April 12, 1961and it orbited the earth.
- This event made Yuri Gagarin very famous.
- Monuments were made in honor of him, and streets were named after this Soviet cosmonaut.
- He was recognized as the Hero of the Soviet Union and Pilot Cosmonaut of Soviet Union.
- Gagarin died on March 27, 1968 as a result from a plane crash.
- Since Gagarin was so famous, his hometown of Gzhatsk was renamed Gagarin in memory of him.

Alan B. Shepard:
- Alan Shepard was born on November 18, 1923 in East Derry, New Hampshire.
- He attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and after he graduated he helped serve our country in World War II.
- He enrolled in the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School in Patuxent, Maryland, in 1950.
- Shepard was 1 of 7 people appointed to the new NASA program in the year 1959.
- Shepard was the first American to reach space, and this event was very historic and was known about around the world.
- Shepard died on July 21, 1998.

John Glenn:
- John Glenn was born on July 18, 1921 in Cambridge, Ohio.
- John Glenn was a U.S. astronaut that orbited the earth 3 times.
- This event happened just 1 year after Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space.
- Glenn served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korean War.
- Glenn retired from being an astronaut in 1964 to pursue politics.
- John Glenn is currently alive and lives with his wife, Annie.

Neil Armstrong:
- He was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
- After being a naval aviator, Neil joined NACA in 1955.
- Armstrong officially became an astronaut in the year of 1962.
- Armstrong held the position of Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati between the years 1971-1979.
- Armstrong is famous for being the astronaut to take the first steps on the moon.

Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin:
- Edwin Aldrin was born on January 20, 1930 in Montclair, New Jersey.
- Aldrin graduated third in his class from United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
- Aldrin was named to the NASA program in 1963.
- He is famous for being one of the first men to set foot on the moon along with Neil Armstrong.
